While doing the prelim I developed some skills including how to correctly use a camera and set it up, I developed several filming skills as I learnt how to get different shot e.g shot reverse shot, how to match cut etc. I also learnt how to obey by the 180 degree rule. When it came to editing we had some trouble with continuity as when did not film as smoothly as we could have so when looking at the final product it did not flow as nicely as we would have liked. When filming next time time we need to also make sure we carry out the rule of thirds as we forgot to do this during one scene, during shooting we had forgot to turn to nr filter off but this was not that noticeable as our filming location was quite bright.
When doing the prelim I took the job of filming as I had not done this before it would be a good opportunity to try it out and I believe I did job doing so although there is quite a bit room left for improvement has there was some flaws in the finished prelim due the filming. As a whole the the finished prelim look good although there was a few noticeable flaws with continuity. We had a good use of different angles and good range of different shots. If I were to do this again I need to make sure I apply to the different rules e.g the rules of thirds. Also when filming I’d need to make better judgement of what the finally thing would look like as this would help with continuity when editing as when we looked back at the footage we noticed that at points we had started a scene from the same shot as we finished the last one not making the scene flow as it should.
I learnt that creating a storyboard and making a short list is very important when creating a film as it allows you stay organised and make sure you know exactly what you’re doing instead of being unprepared. A storyboards allows you to know what to do where, how and when to do it. It is very useful to have so you can focus on other things on set.
