Brief ideas (planning)

Film idea:

A young female is running through what appears to be a forest. She looks terrified and is constantly looking behind her to see if anyone is following her. We can hear her heavy breathing, her heartbeat and the sound of her feet brushing against the leaves while she is running. We see close up clips of articles about teenagers being missing flashing in between the main scene, we also see sections of our villains we can see their masks and lab coats but never their full bodies or faces. The girl trips of a branch and all sounds become silent we slowly get induced to sound again through the sound her breathing and her heartbeat, the camera will then abruptly turn around to the villains walking towards her.

Key Props:

Our key props could consist of a needle, a scalpel, some more lab equipment to emphasise the idea of an experiment. The articles should also be key to our title sequence as it will so how many missing teenagers there are and so how series the situation is.

Locations:

Some sort of forest/park and a lab in the college.

Settings:

A forest and a laboratory.

Costume:

The teenager/s will be in their casual, ordinary clothing which may be dirty and torn due to the struggle they have been through. The doctors will be in their 'surgery' attire which would consist of gloves, a surgical mask and a lab coat.

Lighting:

The lighting will be very dark and dim.

Locations (planning)

Hampstead Heath Park, London:
Hampstead Grove
London NW3 6SP

We could possible use this as location as it spacious allowing us to have space when filming without getting in people’s way.

Hyde Park, London:

Elephant Road
London W2 2UH

Map of hyde park london address postcode

Reasons for possible use are because this location has some quite forest like qualities and is very spacious so we’d have enough room when filming also this area is very accessible as it is in central.

Epping Forest, London:

Greater London
Essex

Map of Epping Forest

Epping Forest is a large area so it allows us to film and run around freely.

City and Islington Science Lab, London:
The Angel 283-309 Goswell Road
EC1V 7LA

This location gives us easy access to any lab equipment we would need for close ups, we could also use the lab coats as apart of three characters costume.

Planning costume ideas

American Horror Story:

Every season of american horror story there is a different storyline meaning a different theme so each season you see actors come and go and are transformed into completely different characters from the previous season. For example:
this is Sarah Paulson in season 1 (Murder House)  and season 5 (Hotel)

Beetlejuice:

Beetlejuice's character has a very iconic look, especially the monochrome striped suit.

Lydia who was played by Winona Ryder who had a very goth-like look about her, she also had flawless alabaster skin, dark hair and dark eyes. Her costumes always consisted of black, black and more black with slight splashes of red throughout like the red wedding dress.

Tim Burton had made being dead seem like some sort of party which is shown with Miss Argentina, Barbara and Adam Maitland, Beetlejuice himself etc.

The Woman In Black:

The costume throughout is very victorian gothic look with dark Frock coats and heavy lace dresses which fits in well with the horror genre. Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) looks bloodless and pale with dark stubble he is permanently seen in frock coat, waistcoat with matching high-waist trousers and top frock, calf length coat, Radcliffe's characters only has the one change throughout the film.

Woman in Black herself is covered head to foot in Victorian mourning dress. Mummified by constrictive lace with a high neckline and with her face hidden beneath a veil.

Group's initial ideas (planning)

As a group we discuss making a horror movie, we thought this would be most interesting. There are many ways you can approach this genre, it allows you to creative. We were thinking about settings/ locations and the idea of a forest came up as it is quite isolated and barren.

We had discussed sound and thought about the diegetic and non diegetic sound. Considering our location is a forest we thought about having the diegetic sounds of the forest being very obvious as this could be very effective with non diegetic sound overlapping the diegetic sound.

We are thinking about having a female character being introduced with her running through the woods trying to get away from something and having another character/s being introduced with only sections of there body being shown this character could quite possibly be some sort of villain so we do not actually know what they look like creating some mystery.

My ideas and inspirations (planning)

 My ideas and inspirations
I really like the idea of create a horror movie title sequence especially after recreating the 'Seven'  title sequence. I like how creative you can be with it and how many different approaches you can take for example both 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' and 'The Shining' are both horror movies but there title sequences are very different.

After watching a few shows and movies with the sub genre of horror, I feel as though I understand how to create an interesting and intriguing title sequence for example in 'American Horror Story: Hotel' the title sequence does not give away any of plot nor are any main characters introduced but some key props are shown for example the bed, you also see inside the hotel giving you insight into the location, also a lot of blood is shown telling you something horrific is going to be happening.

The sound is horror movies are almost always very low, so It would be a good idea to have sound like this in our title sequence. The colour and tone of horror movies are often very dark and dim.

I would prefer if we used a wide range of camera angles and shots in our title sequence like that was done in the title sequence for 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' as I thought this was more effective and interesting to watch.

I like the idea of having our title sequence set in a location like a forest as it is quite excluded and dark.

Evaluation (planning)

Evaluation

For our remark we had a choice of six title sequences. We decided to choose the title sequence to the film 'SE7EN'. We chose this title sequence as our chosen genre is horror. Out of the six title sequences we felt as though this title sequence was the most fitting with our genre. This title sequence also appeared to me the most interesting as it consists of many of shots, in dark settings.

Overall, our filming went well. We worked with what we had and tried to recreate the title sequence to the best of our ability. We used a portable light which came in very useful when creating shadows and finding the right amount of light as we were filming in the dark for most of our filming. We also used a tripod which helped when keeping the camera steady and at the right angle when filming.

Everyone participated in the editing process we all worked together to insure everything was in right order and lasted for a reasonable time. This was difficult at some moments as we did not every shot that is included in the 'SE7EN' title sequence. We used different effects to try and make the remake and the original title sequence as similar as we could. We used the opacity setting to overlap two shots by making one quite see-through. In after effects we had a wide range of text options so we tried to find one that appeared to look most like handwriting as the text in 'SE7EN' is handwritten. We had used the same background as what was used for the original title sequence as we felt this most appropriate. In after effects we also used the 'jiggy' effect on the text as this looked like the same affect used in the seven title sequence, this worked very well as noticed in the final cut it as is quite fast in past.

As a whole I think our remake was successful although we did face some trouble as we lost our edited video during the process so this had to be done again which left us with less time when editing. Overall, I think we worked well with what we had, we used a wide range of props and we worked well when filming as our camera angels and shots were similar to the original title sequence.

PLANNING - Our ideas and inspirations

This collage is a representation of the TV shows and movies that have inspired our ideas for our film.
This is why:
American Horror Story: This gave us ideas for evil characters that we have made and settings
Supernatural: This gave us the ideas for our supernatural villains and products
The Walking Dead: We liked the camera angles and shots
Teen Wolf: This gave us the main idea for our villains and what they do, such as injecting a certain chemical or removing cells
Law Abiding Citizen: This links with Teen Wolf as it helped us develop the ideas of torture and how they perform it
Seven: This gave us the ideas for angles with close ups, color scheme and the pace of the shots
Sound: We liked a mixture of low instrumental like in The Conjuring and diegetic sounds like Nightmare on Elm Street.
