Codes and Conventions
For our opening scene we decided that we would do horror so this is based on the codes and conventions of horror movies.
As a group, we looked at three different horrors films; The conjuring, Nightmare on Elm Street and The Shinning (Micro & Marco Analysis can be found on blog post 13) and we looked at the camera angles they used, the shots, the music and overall similarities.
overall, They all had eerie music playing in the background and gave context of the setting away in the title sequence. the music they used created a creepy and sinister vibe which is often a cliché in horror movies.
Some codes & conventions can be clichés (i.e. psychos knife sound is instantly recognizable and establishes its genre) and most just help emphasize the genre.
Something else that was similar in all is that they tease the narrative by only show a minimal amount, my opinion is that they do this to interest the audience and to make the ending unexpected or shocking. Also it helps create a sense of mystery throughout which is important when doing a horror movie as when most of the narrative is given away the film itself is no longer as scary as it would of been.
