What is Genre?
Genre is a style and/or category of an art form (Music, Literature and in this case Film) and has many different terms.
Sub genre is a subdivision of a genre e.g. a horror could have small connotations of comedy or romance through it but isn't dominant where as a Hybrid genre is when there are two different types of genre in it that are both dominant and present throughout e.g. a romance and comedy (aka Rom-Com) is a very common hybrid.
Many different genres have codes & conventions. This basically means there are certain things that are typically used in specific genres and finally, genre tropes, are things that are associated with a certain genre and are often clichés.
There are different types of genres and each genre has a specific target audience.
Genre is important as it establishes differences between each genre and establish certain codes & conventions to make it clear to the audience and target audience what type of movie it is as well as helping show certain expectations within the genres.

- Ghostbusters (Comedy)

Ghostbusters is considered a comedy (but may have a sub genre which would be horror) and contains alot of comedy tropes which are very typical but makes the movie very funny, The movie it self (although having a sub-genre) clearly shows that its dominant genre is comedy and sets a standard and expectations from the start. The reason why i like comedies is that it have a good tone and atmosphere through out and is more relate-able than other genres (horrors, sci-fi etc.)
- Dark Knight (action)

Dark knight is a action film that follows alot of the codes and conventions of the genre. The characters in action films are very exciting and you develope an attachment to them which is another reason why action movies are "adrenaline packed". it doesn't contain any cliches (that i know of) and has few sub-genres (minimal romance). The reason i like action is because its an interesting experience and like horror films builds up some adrenaline as well as the action sequences are very well thought out and fun to watch.

- Friday The 13th (horror)
Friday the 13th is a horror film and follows alot of its codes and conventions aswell as having alot of cliches throughout the movie, it has a few sub-genres which are thriller, action and minimal romance and comedy but overall it scares the audience. The reason why horror is my favourite genre is that it builds up alot of adrenaline and is very tense. the story lines are cleaver and thought out well and the characters (most of the time) are very interesting.
